Treatment of Septic and Incomplete Abortion (TSIA) & Post Abortion Care
MSS provides services to pregnant women experiencing incomplete or septic abortion through a brief, simple surgical procedure. Gentle suction is used to remove the contents of the uterus that takes no longer than five minutes.

Contraception of client’s choice can be used immediately after the procedure if there is no clinical contraindication. The client can leave the clinic as soon as she feels better.

Post Procedure Instructions
Period like pains may be experienced in some cases which are best relieved by Paracetamol or Ibuprofen (Brufen). The woman may return to work the next day. The MSS clinic provides counseling in case of any problem or concern; there is no need for a follow up visit unless the woman experiences any of the following symptoms.

  • Heavy vaginal bleeding
  • High grade fever
  • Acute pain in lower abdomen
  • Abdominal distension
  • If menstrual period does not return after 15 days of the procedure.
  • Foul smelling vaginal discharge

  • Alternate method for TSIA is to use medication instead of suction for evacuation of the uterus contents; it is a non invasive procedure. This method requires at least two visits and may take longer than the surgical evacuation. This method is offered only to those whose gestation period is less then seven weeks.
